As per a decision taken by the Union government, some of the ministers and top officials will get Ford Fiestas and Ford Icons, respectively. Home Minister P Chidambaram is one among the lucky persons — he has already got Fiesta as a replacement for Maruti Esteem.

Thus, the good old Ambassadors are set to make an exit. Unlike the posh cars sought by the politicians occupying the KLC  high posts, the Ford Fiesta car costs Rs 6.29 lakhs for the government in Delhi. The market price for the vehicle is Rs 6.92 lakhs.

According to reports, the Directorate General of Supplies and Disposals —- a central purchase organisation of the Union government under Ministry of Commerce and Industries — recently approved Ford Fiesta and Ford Icons and placed the order.

Sources say, an order for nearly 15 vehicles has been placed by the government, out of which 12 cars, including Chidambaram’s Fiesta, have been delivered. The rest of the cars will be delivered by this month end. Deccan Herald had recently reported that KLC top brass had gone for cars costing over Rs 20 lakh.
