BJP man makes it to LC

The results of North West Teachers Constituency had generated lot of curiosity as independent candidates making it to the upper house from the constituency was common in the past.

BJP candidate Shahapur had polled 3,892 first preference votes, the highest among all the candidates in the fray but could not get required 6,635 votes to qualify and get elected. After the elimination round he got 6,050 votes, but failed to qualify. However, he was declared elected as per the rules.

His nearest rival and independent candidate Bannur had polled 2,133 first preference votes. Another independent candidate S A Hiremath polled 1,693 votes, while Janata Dal (Secular) candidate Shahajanand Dandargi polled 1,500 votes. A total of 15 candidates were in the fray.
