<p>In a press release, Deputy Commissioner P Hemalatha ordered the ban in view of the heavy rainfall and as a precautionary measure to protect the bridges and roads in the district. <br /><br />Already the highways and bridges have been damaged due to movement of heavy vehicles and ore-laden lorries on NH-17 (from Shiroor of Kundapur taluk to Hejamdi of Udupi taluk) and NH-13 (from S K border to Beluvai).<br /><br />It may be recalled that even in previous year, public had staged several agitations to ban movement of heavy vehicles after the roads and bridges were damaged in the district.</p>
