Speaking after inaugurating the programme, Prof T Prasad from National Institute of Engineering, Mumbai, said “the system of education that we are engaged should be looked differently. The pattern of higher education should be changed. Higher education should involve three objectives. Inclusion, excellence and expansion. Under inclusive concept, we need to create all those avenues of education to avoid brain and money drain.”

Stating that the entrepreneurship and enterprising are not taking up what is really needed, Prasad said the major concern before the country is unemployment. Millions of youth coming out from their higher education remain unemployed. “The process of education we are going is seriously wrong,” he opined.

He said “The present education system has only two innovative ideas. Learn and think are the two mantras. The lines in between are missing. In between learning and thinking, we required having different skill that is ‘selling’. We should find selling as the essence of learning and teaching. Whatever an individual is learning, he should be able to sell it. Self reliance and employable makes him stronger. Education should be self supportive. Students should not depend on parents and government for their schooling,” he said quoting Mahatma Gandhi.

He said “education should become practical and productive. Students should be trained to earn their own bread. Each student should come out with entrepreneurship skills. National School for Students Enterprises has been set up for the purpose of supporting the students,” he added. Manipal University Registrar Dr G K Prabhu, MIM Director Dr K V M Varamballi, Co-ordinator Dr A P Achar and others were present.
