A decision to the effect was taken at the Taluk Panchayat meeting here on Friday. However, the meeting also admitted member V B Udayshankar’s suggestion that the final decision be taken after discussing the issue in the gram sabhas.

Earlier, MLA R Varthur Prakash told the meeting that the officials have granted two illegal sites in the taluk. “On a single day, as many as six people were granted sites in Ramasandra, Naraspur. However, these landowners filed an appeal to sell their lands. They were granted permission. The lands were registered to a person who is said to be a relative of minister Karunakara Reddy,” he claimed.

Despite complaining about the same and submitting a memorandum to the officer concerned, no action has been initiated yet. “Such complaints are rampant throughout the State,” he said.

In 2001, hundreds of fake title deeds were distributed by the Taluk Panchayat. “It was done on the recommendation of the former MLA Srinivas Gowda,” he alleged. The meeting should initiate action against the officer who issued faulty title deeds. He even showed the related file to the meeting.

Replying to this, Ammanallur member Devaraju suggested that it is better to regularise the houses built on these illegal sites instead of demolishing them.

Considering these complaints, the meeting decided to legalise the buildings built on the illeal site.
