Last Updated 10 July 2010, 17:31 IST

Speaking on the sidelines of an event on Saturday, the Governor remarked that it was not the common man who was destroying the rich natural resources, but a few people acting contrary to law by mining illegally. He further stated that the Government should take steps to immediately bring illegal mining to a halt.

The Government should take steps to halt export of iron ore not only from Karwar port, but also at the Rabindranath Tagore beach in Karwar, the Governor stressed.

Declining to comment on the unruly scenes witnessed in the Assembly on Friday, the Governor remarked that laws and rules should not be flouted and decorum had to be maintained at all costs in the Assembly.

On Lokayukta

The Governor stated that he was not sure about the extent of the powers granted to the Lokayukta, but expressed his happiness that Santosh Hegde has withdrawn his resignation.
