The meeting was called for the party’s organisational election. However, supporters of Jayapal, current president of KGF Block Congress and Sampath Kumar, former KDA president, top contenders for the post of KGF Block Congress president, clashed with each other over the selection of candidate name.

Many party workers had decided to leave the decision of electing the office-bearers to party high command.

However, City Municipal Council former member Mohanraj while addressing the gathering urged Sampath Kumar to be made president of the Block Congress. This enraged Jayapal supporters who protested consensus being made in favour of one person when the meeting had decided to leave the issue to high command.

This lead to verbal due two supporters who later clashed with each other on the dais. Many dignitaries including Mahila Congress district unit president Aruna Kumari who were on the dais, ran for cover.

The groups clashed for about 20 minutes before Legislative Council member Nazir Ahmed brought the warring groups to peace.

Earlier, addressing the gathering District Congress unit president Bissegowda had urged the members to deliberate on the need of electing the Block Congress president either through election or by taking the help of party seniors.

MLC Nazir Ahmed ridiculing the fight, had said that Congress workers needed to show their strength even in elections apart from meetings. He urged the workers to strive for the success of party’s candidate in the election. He said it was a historical blunder to let BJP win the elections and added that such a mistake wouldn’t be repeated. The workers should make sacrifices for party as their efforts will not go unnoticed, he added.

CMC president Rashid Khan, Gudi Reddy, Sampath Kumar, Anandaramaiah, Lakshminarayana, Ramachandra, Rajanna, Arunkumari, Radhakrishna Reddy, Narayana Reddy, Observers Venkata Reddy, Rajendran and others were present on the occasion.
