Newspapers to hit stands from Monday

Last Updated 11 July 2010, 14:59 IST

Newpapers in Jammu and Kashmir had suspended publication on July 7 following complaints that journalists were not being allowed by security agencies to move even with curfew passes issued to them. "All issues raised (by the journalists) were resolved amicably at a meeting between the Principal Secretary to Chief Minister and Secretary Information Khurshid Ahmed Ganai and the representatives of media associations," an official spokesman said.

He said the representatives of media associations assured that publication of newspapers shall be resumed. A spokesman of the media associations said that they have decided to resume publication of the newspapers following assurance by the authorities that curfew passes would not only be issued to newspaper employees but would be entertained by the security agencies.

A case registered against a private TV news channel would also be reviewed by the authorities, he added.
