Apathy mars leader's bust

Last Updated 13 July 2010, 17:15 IST

The Town Panchayat and the family members of Dyavegowda had installed the bust on the occasion of birth centenary of noted social reformer.

The then Chief Minister S M Krishna had unveiled the bust nine years ago. However, the bust is being damaged as there is no roof to cover it from rain and sun. On the other hand, bats, crows and other birds make the bust ugly.

The Town Hall here was constructed spending lakhs under the guidance of Dyavegowda. However, the Town Panchayat did not paint it and maintain it properly. Though a fountain was constructed in the town hall premises, it was not made functional yet. Villagers urge the authorities to protect the bust of Dyavegowda, who converted Koppa into a town seven decades ago.
