Karnataka Cong MLA gets regular bail in cheating case

"Accused Santosh Lad is granted regular bail," Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ajay Pandey said.

Earlier, the lawmaker, on June 25, was released on interim bail after he promised to pay the outstanding amount to the complainant firm. Manoj Taneja, counsel for Lad, a mine owner and MLA of Kalaghatgi constituency in Dharwad, said "the dispute has been settled and the lawmaker has agreed to paid back the outstanding dues to M/s Emaar MGF."

"The compromise has been arrived at and the accused has already paid a demand draft of the outstanding amount to the complainant," Taneja said. The lawmaker was arrested at Mumbai Airport on June 23 in connection with the case of alleged cheating lodged by the Delhi-based Emaar MGF Ltd, which had signed a pact with the firm owned and managed by the accused leader.

A look-out notice was issued by Delhi Police against Lad in connection with the case being investigated by Economic Offence wing of the Delhi police. Acting on the look-out notice, immigration officials had detained him at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai while he was on his way to Dubai.
