Go ahead, Cong high command tells leaders

KPCC President R V Deshpande and Opposition Leader in Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah called on party President Sonia Gandhi and apprised her of the developments in the last one week with regard to illegal mining and dharna in the House. Sonia’s political secretary Ahmed Patel and AICC general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad were present at the meeting.

The state leaders demanded firm action against illegal mining, which they said was being indulged in by several ministers of the BJP government. Sonia said that she would impress upon the UPA government in this regard.  The leaders who met Home Minister P Chidambaram on Friday, will call on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Mines Minister B K Handique.
