Chain snatching: 3 held

Speaking presspersons here on Monday, Udupi SP Pravin Pawar said police have seized 1050 gram gold worth Rs 18.38 lakh from the arrested. The arrested are Ramesh Poojary (35) of Gundibail, Vadiraj Kotian of Doddanagudde and Umesh Kamath.

Giving details on the modus operandi, he said that the accused were targetting the lone aged women walking in isolated areas. They used to follow them in two-wheeler and snatch the chains.

They were involved in 17 chain snatching cases in the district. The stolen ornaments were purchased by Umesh Kamath, who runs G K Consultants in Udupi. The police also seized 2 two-wheelers and a tata sumo from the accused.

The SP said another member of the gang Ravi Munnoli is presently serving imprisonment at Bellary jail.
