Cricket : ZCA tournament

On a day when the last hour and a half was washed out due to a heavy downpour, North finished at a modest 237 for six after opting to bat first, thanks mainly to the undefeated sixth-wicket association.

Krishna Das (3/64) and Kundan (2/76) threatened to wrap up the North innings by mid-afternoon before Gurinder (61 n.o.) and Preetkamal (51 n.o.) engaged in a stirring rearguard action to ensure North had some reason to smile after the first day.

At the distant JIRS grounds, Akshat Reddy made a century to help ZCA South post a respectable total against the All India Universities under-19 team. Akshat’s 115 countered a good spell of bowling from Imtiaz Ahmed, who finished with figures of four for 87, as South were eventually bowled out for 275. Karun Nair chipped in with 51.
