RCB keen on foreign recruits

Last Updated 24 July 2010, 18:29 IST

RCB are looking to keep explosive New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor, South African wicketkeeper batsman Mark Boucher and his compatriot and all-rounder Jacques Kallis for the second edition of the competition.

A number of players have been named by more than one team, making each of the final selections an important strategic and financial decision for the participants. The nine teams taking part in the CL will have to name their final squad of 15 on August 9. “Yes, we are eager to keep the foreign players with us for the forthcoming Champions League. We are looking for the services of (Ross) Taylor, (Mark) Boucher and (Jacques) Kallis.

Their presence, we feel, is important for our scheme of things especially with Kevin Pietersen and Eoin Morgan are unavailable for the event,” a top RCB official told Deccan Herald.  “Boucher and Kallis’ experience of South African conditions too will be handy for us in the competition,” he added.

Pietersen and Morgan will not available for the Champions League due to their commitment to their respective counties -- Hampshire and Middlesex. An earlier report mentioned that the IPL franchises were not eager to retain the imported players since it demanded the payment of USD 200,000 compensation for the player’s home team. Taylor is qualified to play for New Zealand side Central Stags besides RCB, while Kallis and Boucher have also been eligible to play for South African team Warriors.
