Grand daughter and President of  Zilla Panchayat Vinutha Srinivas was among the relatives who mourned his death. Narayanagowda had participated in the ‘Jail Bharo Movement’ during the freedom struggle and was imprisoned for three months.

He was a close associate of the first Chief Minister of Karnataka K C Reddy and former Legislator Avalareddy.  Narayanagowda was an elected member of the District Board prior to Independence. Post-Independence, he worked as President of the taluk Congress for 50 years consecutively. He was also the founder-president of the TAPCMS.

Inspite of being a freedom fighter, Narayanagowda had refused special privileges given by the government.  When a house in Bangalore was offered to him, he had suggested that it be given to the needy. The plot for the City Congress Bhavan and the TAPCMS building were accepted under his presidentship in 1962.

Narayangowda laid the foundation stone for the Congress Bhavan in 2002, said Narayanagowda’s grandson and former Zilla Panchayat member Srinivas.

Last rites

The last rites of the deceased were conducted with government honours in his hometown, K Muttakadahalli. Legislator V Muniyappa expressed sorrow at Narayanagowda’s death.  He added that he had lived his own political life following the ideals set by Narayanagowda.
