Woman dies; kids in ICU

She fed poison to her children and swallowed it

Parveen Begum, wife of Afzal Hussain, died in hospital while her children Zeba Fatima (12), Syed Junaid (10) and Saba Fatima (8) are in ICU.

According to  police, Parveen was quite depressed as her elder daughter was handicapped and suffering from epilepsy. Her husband worked a in scrap shop in city market area and they could not arrange money for their daughter’s treatment.

“This might have led her to take such extreme step. She made her three children to swallow tablets meant to cure epilepsy before she consumed the same. Her husband who came from work at around 10.30 pm found the door locked from inside. He broke open the door with the help of neighbours, and rushed his wife and children to hospital,” the police said.  Parveen died within hours.

Mystery death

A 22-year-old final year engineering student was found dead under mysterious circumstances at her uncle’s house in Doddabomasandra area, Sunday morning.

Smitha, a 7th semester student of MVIT Engineering College, and a native of Chitradurga, was found dead in the bathroom. According to Vidyaranyapura police, Smitha, who was preparing for her MTech, had gone to Malleswaram on Saturday to enrol in a coaching institute.

“On her way back, she got late and had called up her father Venkatesh Reddy in Hyderabad. She was advised to go the house of to his uncle Dr Gnanaprakash in Doddabomasandra. On Sunday morning, at around 6.30 am, Smitha called up her father again and complained of body ache. Her father asked Dr Gnanaprakash to give her some medicine,” the police said.

After sometime, Smitha went to the bathroom but did not come out for a long time. Finally, the doctor broke open the door only to find her in unconscious.

“She was declared brought dead at the hospital. Venkatesh has filed a complaint stating that some wrong medicine given by Dr Gnanaprakash might have reacted on her daughter. We are waiting for the post mortem report to ascertain the exact cause of the death,” the police said.
