The campus was celebrating ‘Degree Freshers Day’ and the freshers had a dress code for the day — ‘Anarkali’ tops or frocks with jeans, accessories comprising multi-colour bangles, long earrings, goggles with tags hanging, plaits with flowers, two dark shades of lipstick, shoes with mismatched socks and a scarf around the neck.

The students gathered at M G Hall for the ‘Freshie Queen Contest’. The audience cheered as the 25 short-listed contestants went up the stage to face the challenges put forth to them. The dress code for the ‘Freshie Queen Contenders’ was a unique one — colourful t-shirt, boxers on salwars, colourful wigs and lots of beads around the neck. They had to carry a colourful handbag in one hand and a gunny bag in the other.

The ‘Freshie Queen Contest’ started with the introduction of judges — Mary Pee, last year’s college union president, Ranreiphi and Ayshwarya, ex-cultural secretaries of Baldwin College Union. The uniquely dressed contestants introduced themselves creatively, which was followed by the ‘Ramp Walk’. In the ‘General Knowledge’ section, they competed to give the right answer. The judges’ questions and the ‘Written Round’ followed this.

The seniors also kept the audience entertained as they performed on stage on the latest songs.

The hall was filled with enthusiasm and the excitement of the students as the event continued. Finally, the day ended with the announcement of Preeti Koirala (BBM first year) as ‘Freshie Queen 2010 - 2011’, Archana (B Com first year) and Debbi Annia (BBM first year) were chosen as the first and the second runners-up.
