Quizzing at its best

The event was the TCS IT Wiz, which was conducted in the City recently and it received an overwhelming response from children from all over the City. The nationwide IT quiz being conducted across 12 cities in India, was held at the Chowdaiah Memorial Hall. It was a packed auditorium with over 1000 students from different schools, all of them excited to be present there.

 The six schools that had made it to the finals of the quiz were Sri Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain, Sri Kumaran Children’s Home – CBSE, National Academy For Learning, NAFL, St Joseph’s Boys High School, Bishop Cotton Boys School and St Paul’s. Each of the teams had two students competing for the ultimate honours. The winning team would be participating in the national finale to be held later, in addition to winning great prizes.

The stage was set and the kids did not disappoint. The quiz was not only innovative but also very exciting, where the students were challenged to not only think laterally but also be quickpaced. It was a high quality quizzing which had everyone on their toes, including the audience.

The various rounds of the quiz were: Autonomic computing, which explored the knowledge of the contestants on how abreast they were with the IT world; Cloud computing, which was powered by visuals and covered the mainline industry, people and brands that have changed the world and technology; @ TCS, focused on the ability of the teams to crack answers at a rapid pace; Parallel computing, was a round that required lateral thinking and the ability to use the mind; Grid computing had the teams cracking answers based on clues to move along the grid. The quiz focused on application of information technology across various sectors of the world, IT buzzwords, acronyms, personalia, advertisements and communication companies, history of IT as well as the humourous side of the IT.

After an hour of tense rounds, finally SBM Jain won the top prize, and would be competing in the nationals. Radikha, one of the winners from SBM as it turned out to be, was also the first girl from Bangalore to make it to the finals since the quiz began.
