Cong warns of protest if polls delayed

Last Updated 17 June 2009, 19:15 IST

Addressing the media, former mayor and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) general secretary Ramachandrappa alleged that the government is playing gimmicks to delay the elections as much as possible.

He said the government had given 14 days time for filing objections on the draft delimitation of wards whereas as per the recent amendment by the government, seven days time limit for calling the objections is enough. This showed the government’s commitment for the elections.

He also held the  government responsible for halting the developmental works in City, although it repeatedly issued statements that the city will be developed on par with any international city. He said the state election commissioner M R Hegde, who struggled for the BBMP elections, will be retiring on June 20.
