With absolutely no filmy connections, Sonal says her entry in Bollywood was destined.
In the City recently to speak about her Sandalwood debut in Raghuram’s Cheluvye
Ninna Nodalu, the Jannat girl says Bangalore has always given her positive vibes.

“The people are so optimistic and lovely here. Every time I have come here on shoot,
I have enjoyed myself to the fullest,” she tells Metrolife.

But that was not the sole reason for her to sign a Kannada film. In fact, Kannada movies were not even on her agenda.

“I never planned to do a Kannada movie. It was only when director Raghuram came to Mumbai and spoke to me about the script that I was convinced with the story. And Shivarajkumar being in the film only came as an added bonus,” she says.

Working with Shivarajkumar was a great experience for Sonal. “He is such a helpful and patient actor. He knew I didn’t know the language and yet, he made me feel so
comfortable. He even explained every line to me,” she adds.

In Cheluve…, Sonal plays a simple, girl next door called Prakruthi. Even her look in the
film has been kept very simple, something that every girl can relate to. The film is about how her life changes for better and her faith in love is reinstated after meeting
the hero, a tour guide.

“Due to certain tragic incidents in her family, my character stops believing in love. But her encounter with the hero changes her attitude to life and love,” she adds.

A romantic by heart, Sonal says that true love is something that exists only in dreams.

“I love love stories. That’s why even my previous film Jannat was a love story with a different angle. I believe in love as it helps in positive thinking and lucky are those who can find love in its true sense. But for me, it exists in a dream world,” she says.

Ask her what is she looking for in her dream guy? “Nothing extravagant. I just want to find a nice, genuine and a loyal guy for myself,” she smiles.

As for the future, Sonal is all set to act in painter M F Hussain’s son Owais Hussain’s untitled project.

“I am very excited about this film. Being a painter himself, he has brought in an artistic touch to the film and I am sure people will get to see a different side of me in it,” she signs off.
