Defence spokesman Lt Col J S Brar said: “Three AK rifles, 15 magazines and 480 rounds of ammunition were recovered from encounter site.” He added that identity of the slain militants is yet to be established.

In another incident, the Army and police recovered a major cache of arms near Sangrama (Sopore), the spokesman said.

The seized arms include three AK rifles, five pistols with silencers, a rocket-propelled grenade launcher, 19 Improvised Explosive Devices, 30 kg of explosives and two radio sets. Brar said the recovery is a major breakthrough in view of the security arrangements for Independence Day celebrations.

Meanwhile, Kashmir again  witnessed a  half day of normalcy on Thursday on the first day of the holy month of Ramzan.

Amid the ongoing protest and strike programmes of the hardline faction of the Hurriyat Conference, the separatists had asked people to resume work for half day. The state government has also lifted curfew.
