India-China to talk on border issues soon

Last Updated 12 August 2010, 09:28 IST

"The talks will be held soon in Beijing," Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao said in an interview to All India Radio.

India will be represented by National Security Advisor Shivshankar Menon.

Rao, a former Indian ambassador to China, however said the date for the meeting had not been finalised.

The two countries have held 14 rounds of talks on their border row that sparked a war in 1962.

Menon, during his visit to Beijing last month, laid emphasis on resolving the differences over demarcation of borders and conducting joint military exercises to boost bilateral ties.

Recently, China had claimed certain parts of Arunachal Pradesh as its territory.

Replying to a question on the stapled visas issued to people from Jammu and Kashmir, Rao said: "We reject the policy and put this across to the Chinese side clearly."
