The government proposed to construct another war memorial in honour of those who laid down their lives for the cause of the nation, in addition to the current project in the city, he said.

The memorial coming up in a park in the city has triggered criticism from some prominent persons who expressed concern that it would affect the lung space.

Speaking at the foundation laying ceremony of the housing project of the Army Welfare Housing Organisation (AWHO) near Whitefield, Yeddyurappa said the government would provide land for the similar projects at Mysore, Bidar, Bijapur, Hubli, Mangalore and Dharwad.

Extending all cooperation to Defence personnel, he said the government would waive developmental charge for the proposed Rs 600 crore housing project of the AWHO.
The government was also willing to bear 50 per cent of the property tax on the houses constructed by the armymen.

Chief of Army Staff, General V K Singh and senior staff members were among those present at the function.
