It goes without saying that we all want to look our best for our wedding day. And the key to that lies in preparation. Taking care of your skin, hair and body in the months leading up to your wedding day can take away half your worries.

To look slim in your sari or wedding dress, watch what you eat in the months leading up to the wedding and exercise regularly.

To give your skin a healthy glow, drink plenty of water — at least 2 litres a day. Dehydrated skin looks dull, dry and unattractive. The essential fatty acids found in salmon, tuna, nuts and seeds are essential for beautiful skin and hair. Try and eat as much of these foods as possible.

Keep your skin in perfect condition with daily cleansing, toning and moisturising. It’s very important that you are use the right products on your skin. Remember to exfoliate your skin every week. This will eliminate old skin cells and renew your skin.

You may follow an exfoliating routine for your back, arms and chest. You can treat your hair to hair masks to bring back the shine and bounce to your tresses. Most salons provide hair treatments with essential oils and vitamin products, which are great for the hair and the scalp as a weekly or bi-weekly treat.

You can also make your own intensive moisturising hair conditioner. Once the homemade paste has been applied, use a hairdryer to apply heat to your hair. Then wrap your hair in cling film to trap the heat. Leave it on for as long as you desire. The moisture that collects will penetrate into the scalp and hair cuticles. This treatment ensures that the shine is regained and hair looks fabulous.

Make sure you have a fair idea of your look for your wedding day. Browse the Internet for ideas and get a friend or family member to help you choose your look. Discuss the look with your stylist in advance so that she can even conduct a trial make-up session before the actual event.
