'Vachanas intend to promote value'

'One must be ready to perform any kind of task assigned to him/her'

He was delivering a talk on ‘Vachana Sahitya,’ in a programme organised for the students by Dakshina Kannada Zilla Kannada Sahitya Parishat in association with Kannada Literature and Cultural Club of Government PU College, Car Street.

Quoting few popular Vachanas he said that all the Vachanas intend to promote values and especially they insist the people to develop passion towards work.

“One must be ready to perform any kind of task assigned to him/her. The famous Vachana of Basavanna says ‘Kayakave Kailasa,’ which means work is worship.”
“This phrase can motivate the human beings for betterment,” he said.
Speaking about the Vacanakaras during 12th century, he informed that there is wrong notion among the public about the promoters of Vachana Sahitya.

“Whenever we discuss about Vachanas, it is only Basavanna who strikes our thought, but in reality there are hundreds of Shiva Sharanas who have worked for the promotion of Vachanas,” he said and added that 37 ordinary women broke all the discriminations and wrote Vachanas in 12th century.

Meanwhile, Kannada Seva Abhivandane, a felicitation ceremony to the former Principal of the College P P Joseph was held to commemorate his efforts for the development of Kannada and Cultural Club in the college.

The new Principal Elvira Philomena presided over the function and Deputy Mayor Rajendra Kumar was the chief guest.
