Queen's Baton Relay to enter Karnataka on Wednesday

It would be received at Chikkanhalli in the border district of Chamarajanagar and would then be taken to Mysore, Bangalore, Hassan, Mangalore and Karwar before crossing over to Goa on September seven, Karnataka Sports Minister Gulihatti D Shekar told reporters here on Wednesday.

It would be welcomed on September two by Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa at Sree Kanteerava Stadium here, where Shekar would receive an album containing special postal covers.

Yeddyurappa would hand over the baton to badminton legend Prakash Padukone and Olympian Kenneth Powell. The relay would be joined by sportspersons, legislators, film personalities and school children, among others, Shekar said.

Cultural programmes would be organised in Mysore, Bangalore and Mangalore on September one, two and five respectively. Karnataka government has sanctioned Rs 35 lakh for the week-long relay programme, organised to share the excitement of the Games to be held in Delhi from October three to 14.
