Though, Kolar is only 86 kms away from Bangalore, the commercial hub of the State, there is no direct rail connectivity to Kolar from Bangalore.

With lack of rail connectivity from Kolar to the neighbouring Andhra Pradesh( East), Tamil Nadu (South), the economic growth of the district is handicapped.

Though the district is known for sericulture, dairy farming and the cultivation of mangoes vegetables, the farmers are unable to sell their produce outside the State, due to bad connectivity.

More expense

Nearly, two and a half hours is spent travelling from Kolar to Bangalore via Bangarpet. Also, one will have to shell out money again to travel from the Cantonment station t to Majestic.

A memorandum has been submitted to the Union Minister of State for Railways K H Muniyappa seeking the creation of a rail route from Kolar to Bangalore via Tekal.
The DEMU railway which was inaugurated by the minister on Thursday, leaves in the morning and reaches only at 8.20 pm.

If one misses the train then the individual will have to wait until the next day morning.
Also, the gauge conversion from Kolar- Chikkaballapur has to be considered.
