According to Das, he and his friends were conned by Royal Holidays to the tune of Rs 3.7 lakh under the pretext of providing them a full fledged China tour package. “I always wanted to go on a world tour along with my family after retirement. I had paid Rs 2.4 lakh as advance on May 6 at the agency’s UB City office.

One Rajeshwari, who introduced herself as the owner Ningaraju’s daughter took the money and issued the acknowledgement for the China tour scheduled for July 27. Two of my other friends had also paid Rs 1.30 lakh for the same tour,” he has mentioned in his complaint filed with the Cubbon Park police on Tuesday.

Das and his friends were rattled when they could not reach Ningaraju over phone just a week before the tour. They were also told that the tickets have been booked in Thai Airways. They managed to get Ningaraju on phone only on July 28.

“He told us that the trip was cancelled due to some unavoidable reason and it has been postponed till the next week. Meanwhile, we got to know that Ningaraju had fled to Bangkok,” Das said.

This led Das and his friends to check with the Thai Airways and it was revealed that the tickets were cancelled due to non-payment. “We had even managed to get his Bangkok contact number, but our attempts to reach him went in vain.” A cheating case has been registered against Ningaraju. The Cubbon Park police are looking into the matter.
