According to senior police officials here on Sunday, the report of the Chandigarh-based Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) has been received and it has confirmed that the voice in the CD was that of Varun Gandhi. “We have received a preliminary report. A supplementary chargesheet will be soon filed against Varun,” said a senior police official requesting anonymity as the matter was sub judice.

Pilibhit district magistrate Ajai Chauhan said the lab report has been received. “According to my information, the voice in the CD matches with that of Varun,” he said refusing to elaborate further.

Voice sample

Varun had refused to give his voice sample for the test and the authorities had to supply some other voice sample of the young MP to the lab. Police officials here made it clear that the CDs were sent only to the Chandigarh-based lab for examination.

Varun has been claiming that the CD has been doctored and that it was a political conspiracy against him. The young saffron party MP was arrested in Pilibhit on March 28 on the charge of making “anti-Muslim” remarks at an election rally at Barkhera on March 8.

As his remarks triggered widespread condemnation, NSA was slapped on him on March 29 but he was released on parole from the Etah district jail on April 16 after he gave an undertaking before the Supreme Court that he would not make any inflammatory speeches. Altogether six cases have been registered in connection with his hate speech at different police stations of Pilibhit and chargesheet have been submitted in the court in some of the cases. According to sources, the state government did not want any more delay in proceeding with the case. “We now have ample evidence to prove our case,” claimed a senior police official.
