Three persons arrived at the boutique White Peacock on Link Road on Sunday afternoon and asked for its owner Ekta Mohnani.

The watchman at the boutique told them that she was not there. “He also said that he does not know her whereabouts. Subsequently, one of them opened fire, injuring the watchman on his right hand,” said Additional Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta.
The three then fled the spot, he said, adding the watchman, identified as Bablu Yadav, 25, was rushed to nearby Bhabha hospital.

Extortion calls

According to crime branch officials, Ekta’s father Ashok Mohnani is a builder and had received extortion calls in the past from gangster Ravi Pujari.

“Two years ago, Ashok had received extortion calls following which he was police security. This can be an attempt by Pujari gang to instill fear in the Mohnanis,” Additional Police Commissioner (Crime) Deven Bharti said.
