Admission racket busted, two arrested

The suspects were identified as Abhimanyu (23) from Rothas in Bihar and a third year Computer Science engineering student from Revana Siddeshwar College and Rajiv Kumar (23), also from Rothas and a BBM student of Christ Jayanthi College. The police recovered Rs two lakh cash, a laptop and fake admission letters of various colleges.

According to the police, the suspects would target north Indian students aspiring to pursue professional courses like medical, engineering and MBA in Bangalore. They would claim that they had high-level contacts in most of the engineering colleges in Karnataka. The suspects would collect huge sums from them and issue fake admission letters. They would deposit part of the money in the accounts of their relatives and use the remaining to meet their personal expenses, the police said. They would prepare the fake admission letters in their laptops, put principals’ signatures and institutions’ seals on the letters before handing them over to victims. They had prepared the fake admission letters of Adi Chunchungiri Medical College, Nagamangala, K V G Medical College, Sullya, Bharath University, Chennai, Revana Siddeshwar College of Engineering and Technology, Venkateshwar Engineering College, Reva Engineering College, Alfa College of Engineering and Technology and other reputed colleges in the State.

Cases have been registered against them in many police stations. Interestingly, many of the victims, had not come forward to lodge complaints. The police suspect a few staff of some of the colleges might have helped the suspects in the racket, the police said.

Fire mishap in cloth shop

A major fire broke out at a cloth shop near Ulsoor police station here on Monday night. The mishap was reported at Shringar Cloth Centre on Car Street around 11:15 pm, police said.

Although the cause for the mishap is unknown, police say that it may be due to electric short circuit. Seven fire tenders were rushed to douse the fire.
