NGOs welcome Palemar's move

They also urged the Minister to not to give permission for the Gundya project and recommend the government to announce Western Ghat region as highly sensitive region. The study on the carrying capacity of the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts should be completed by the government, the release said.

It may be recalled that the 400 MW Gundya Hydel Power Project, proposed by Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd (KPCL), and located in Sakleshpur taluk and Puttur taluk, involves construction of three weirs and two dams.

A group of people including the localites under the banner of Malenadu Janapara Horata Samithi have been opposing the project ever since the project was mooted several years ago.
