He was speaking at the 95th Jayanthi Mahotsav of Dr Shivarathri Rajendra Swamiji held at JSS Medical College in the city on Monday. The only way to increase the country’s resources is by spreading knowledge and not through financial aid, he said.

Advising the students of medical and dental colleges, he said they should not be bound by caste or creed when dealing with their patients.

Commending the JSS institutions for providing education to more than 36,000 students, he appreciated the institution for providing free ‘Annadaana’ and ‘Vidyadaana’ for 5,000 students at its school at Suttur.

Speaking after unveiling the statue of  Dr Shivarathri Rajendra Swamiji at the JSS Dental College, Pejawar Mutt Seer Visveshathirta Swamiji said that more educational institutions should be opened in villages and education has to be spread to all parts of the State. He stressed on the need for establishing schools, food and hostels to students residing in villages.

He said that earlier mutts used to focus only on spiritual needs of the people. Nowadays, mutts are working towards spreading knowledge and involving themselves with the needs of the society.

Sacrifice and penance are important qualities in religious heads, he observed. Uniforms were distributed to school students on the occasion. Rank holders belonging to JSS Medical, Dental, Pharmacy and Ayurveda colleges were felicitated.

Blood, eye and body donation camps were organised to mark the Jayanthi Mahotsav.
