CET aspirants virtually run from pillar to post

Last Updated 22 June 2009, 17:17 IST

A giant display screen giving the updates of available seats and selected courses was shifted to a more vantage point outside the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) venue, after complaints from the waiting aspirants that visibility was blocked by the pillars of the building.

But alas! Too much light due to an exceptionally sunny Monday defeated the very purpose and the students were left in the lurch once again, unable to read the screen.
The display screens were earlier inside KEA. One of them was moved outdoors owing to the continuous stream of complaints of non-visibility. Lakshmi P, a parent accompanying her son said, “We came in the morning and have been unable to read the screen. Two days back, the screens were inside the building and it was difficult to see them due to the newly constructed pillars. Although they have moved the screen forward, it is hardly visible.”

None the wiser

Another parent, Venkatesh Rao, a central government employee, had the same lament. “My daughter’s engineering counselling is on Wednesday and I came here in advance to see how the system of seat selection works and how it is updated. However, I am not any wiser. The weather too seems to have contributed its bit  as it was too bright most part of the day,” Rao added, not without disappointment.

KEA officials, on their part, said that they are “looking into the matter”. “We are aware of the problem and will extend the roof, perhaps by arranging a make-shift roof, and prevent excessive light falling on the screen. The display screens and the projector are customised for CET counselling,” they said.

Common Entrance Test 2009 rank holders from 6,401 to 8,100 ranks will be allowed to select seats on June 23 in order of merit as per CET 2009 brochure.
