Two more die of H1N1

Two more H1N1 deaths were reported in the City on Monday. With this, the death toll due to swine flu has gone up to 11 in the City. The number of positive cases has touched 433.

Gowramma and Usha Rani are the latest victims of the disease. Gowramma, 60, a resident of RT Nagar, died on February 19 at Chinmaya Hospital and Usha Rani, 58, breathed her last at M S Ramiah Hospital. She was a resident of Sheshadripuram and died on February 21. Both the deaths were confirmed by Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike Officials on Monday.

Across the State, as many as 699 positive cases and 36 deaths have been reported, according to officials of the department of health and family welfare. Programme officer, Sunanda Bai, said reports on patients from North Karnataka having to travel to Bengaluru for treatment was false.

Home quarantine

“There are enough hospitals there to treat patients. Each of them have a stock of 2,500 tablets. We have also ensured there is home quarantine,” she added.

Dr Shashidhar Buggi, medical director, Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases, said the number of cases has gone down considerably. “In the month of January and in the first week of February, we had seen a lot of cases. This week, the number of positive cases have gone down,” he added.

So far, in this hospital, eight were tested positive and four deaths were reported.
