FM to unveil State ICT policy on Oct 28

Addressing the mediapersons on Tuesday, he said the Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee will be requested to unveil the policies on October 28, as he will be in Bangalore city on that day.

Minister said the first phase of the State’s ambitious Information Technology Investment Region at an estimated cost of Rs one lakh crore on 10,000 acres in Devanahalli, near the airport, will take off by December first week.

A notification to acquire over 2,000 acres of land has been issued and the process for acquiring the remaining land will be initiated in a week’s time. Villages will not be acquired for the project, instead land will be acquired 1,000 mts away from the villages, the minister added. The project will be implemented in three phases. In the first phase Rs 25,000 crore will be invested and would require 2,000 acres of land. The work is scheduled to commence in December, Katta said.

Jobs for 40 lakh people

The Information Technology Investment project will be in place in 10 to 15 years time and would provide employment to about 40 lakh people.

He further stated that the establishment of IT park in Shimoga and Mangalore is on in collaboration with private investors. An agreement will be soon drawn to establish an IT park in Gulbarga.

Alexandria Company has been accorded permission to develop a biotech park on 56 acres of land near Electronic City. The company has invested Rs 250 crore and the government has leased out the land for 60 years at a fixed rental of Rs 11.73 lakh per acre per annum, he said.

An Agri biotech park is coming up in Dharwad, while a Marine biotech park in coming up in Mangalore. The the government has approved the establishment of 10 BT finishing schools by private players.
