The investigating agency will proceed with the case after securing the report.

Sources said the DNA tests conducted by the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics has established that Halappa had a physical relation with the complainant, Chandravathi. The CID had sent the clothes, which were reportedly worn by Halappa and the victim on the day of the alleged rape, for the DNA test. However, when contacted, D V Guruprasad, DG, CID neither confirmed or denied the receipt of DNA test report.

Sources said that even if the report has established that Halappa and the victim had physical relation, it doesn’t establish whether it was a rape or consensual sex. The investigation agency will be filing a charge sheet against the accused only after receiving the test report of the audio and visual, sources said.

The victim’s husband Venkatesh Murthy had submitted an audio and video recording of the alleged rape to the police. During the CID investigation it was found that the date and time of the alleged rape mentioned by the victim did not match with the video and audio recordings. The clippings have been sent for lab test, the report of which is yet to reach the CID.

Halappa had alleged that he had been implicated in a false case. However, with the DNA report contradicting his claims, the former minister seems to be in a tight spot.
When contacted, Halappa refused to comment on the latest development, as the matter was pending before the court.
