Tulu serial on air from Sept 18

Speaking to presspersons here on Monday, Star India President (South) Jagadish Kumar said that the serial will be telecast on Saturday and Sunday at 1.30 pm.

“Karnataka with its diverse and rich cultural history truly represents the essence of India, which has a prominent place for celebration of diversity. Tulu language, and culture has tremendous depth, variety and originality. The Tulu speaking population have made their presence felt in field of education, hospitality, manufacturing, financial services and entertainment sectors. The serial, which will be telecast on Asianet Suvarna will be a small step to cater to the entertainment needs of Tulu speaking community. An exclusive national Tulu channel may come up in the future to cater to the needs of the people of the region,” he added.

Director Shivadhwaj said that comedy has been a prominent genre in Tulu theatre and with ‘Gotthanaga Porthand,’ he plans to take off in this genre.

“We will have episodic stories, ie., two episodes a week during the weekend. Many other popular actors from Tulu theatre will be joining the episodes in the future,” Shivadhwaj said.
Suvarna Business Head Anup Chandrashekaran said that the launch of a Tulu serial signifies launch of a Tulu band, and not just a serial. “We will have more content coming in Tulu language in the days to come. Even Tulu movies will be telecast in the channel as we have already purchased the movies for telecasting,” he said.
