State Information Commissioner K A Thippeswamy has directed the Inspector General and Director General of Police Ajai Kumar Singh to recover the penalty from the salary of the Commandant for the month of August 2010 and remit the same to the State Government Head of Accounts under compliance to KIC. The IG and DGP has also been requested to make arrangement for training of his officials to familiarise themselves with the provisions of the Act.

Shaikh Shafi Ahmed, an RTI activist in his application on August 5, 2009 had sought hard copies of index catalogues of files, records maintained and suo motu declaration of office functioning which are fundamental requirement for any public authority under the Act.
Despite serving show cause notices and giving opportunity the Commandant did not furnish information forcing the KIC to invoke Section 20 (1) of the Act to impose monetary fine. Thippeswamy said that this was a fit case to levy penalty on the public authority as there was no response from him. This is said to be a rare case involving a police officer of the rank of SP being fined by KIC.
