Having slipped out of the top-100 in recent times, the 23-year-old Hyderabadi moved into the third round of the singles category after putting out the third-seeded Akgul Amanmuradova of Uzbekistan in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.
Sania had defeated Briton Katie O'Brien in three sets 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 in the first round on Tuesday. Sania then joined hands with Edina Gallovits of Romania to make it to the second round of the doubles draw. The duo put out the Australian combine of Jarmila Groth and Sally Peers, also in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.
