Protesters alleged that the BEML was trespassing their area
Last Updated 15 September 2010, 17:39 IST

The administrative section of the BEML had proposed to construct an arch at the entrance of the road which leads to BEML railway coach unit, near Orrgaum Circle.

Since the region belonged to the BGML, the BEML officials had even written to BGML Managing Director B L Bagra, seeking his permission in this regard.

After the approval was given, the construction of BEML arch began on Wednesday morning. Huge crates were dug on either sides of the road and the labourers had even readied the cement concrete and were laying the foundation.

Attempts to stop work

At this juncture, some of the labourers belonging to BGML and their family members tried to stop the work.

They alleged that the managing director did not have any rights to allow the construction work. The BEML workers were trying to trespass the mining region belonging to BGML, they complained.

Later on, Orrgaum police arrived on the scene and tried to pacify the protesters.
The BEML officials presented suitable documents to the protesters. After the protesters were convinced, the BEML officials decided to go ahead with their project.

However, work was halted for Wednesday and all the crates that were dug were closed.
