ECB bans Mascarenhas for twitter outburst

Last Updated 16 September 2010, 15:59 IST

Mascarenhas, who was earlier fined 1000 British pounds by his County team Hampshire, will have to shell out another 500 pounds towards the cost of the hearing.

An ECB cricket discipline commission panel, comprising Gerard Elias QC, Ricky Needham and Matthew Wheeler considered two charges against Mascarenhas and ordered punishment.
“The charges were that there had been a breach of ECB directives by a personal attack in a public statement about England national selector Geoff Miller, and also by bringing the game into disrepute by that public statement,” an ECB statement said.

“The panel considered this to be a serious breach of the regulations, particularly given his status as a senior cricketer and club captain. It took account of the fine of £1,000 already imposed by Hampshire,” it added.
