At a meeting convened to discuss clearing of illegal religious structures in the wake of Supreme Court’s directive, the DC said that it was imperative for the administration to implement the verdict of the Supreme Court.
Non-adherence of the orders amounts to contempt of court and criminal case would be booked against the guilty.
After December 7, 2009 the administration had not allowed any illegal place of worship to come on footpaths and roads. The existing structures should be identified for either demolition or regularisation.
A plan of action should be chalked out at the earliest. So far, 79 illegal religious structures have been identified in the district.
He said a meeting of religious leaders and groups would soon be convened to educate them about the SC’s order. Officials would be held responsible for any lapses in the implementation of the SC’s order.
Mandya AC Rangappa, Pandavapura AC Prabhu and other tahsildars were present.
