Accordingly, BBMP Commissioner Siddaiah has begun reviewing the list of officials on deputation from other departments and repatriating them to their parent departments.
On Thursday, inspecting the BBMP East Zone office at Mayo Hall, Siddaiah said as many as 12 Assistant Directors under the Town Planning Department were unwarranted.

“The maximum number of files that these directors looked into were four to eight. Is there any merit in their employment,” questioned Siddaiah.

Supervising the pace of work, the Commissioner observed that each of the files could be disposed of in about two and half hours. “All that the assistant directors need to do is to verify facts and clear files,” he said.

He also noted that even as certain departments in the BBMP faced shortage of manpower others were overstaffed.

Engineering, Town Planning, Horticulture and the Forest departments have been found to be overstaffed, he added.

Mounting pressure

With pressure mounting on the BBMP to investigate into the projects commissioned during the administrative period, the palike is now auditing the feasibility of the projects.
The BBMP has authorised the Technical Vigilance Co-ordination Committee (TVCC) to look into the projects and submit a detailed report.

“At present, as many as 3,925 projects worth Rs 2,365 crore are on in the City. We are trying to ascertain the requirement of these projects,” said Siddaiah.

The Commissioner has further issued orders to freeze funds to the tune of  Rs 1,945 crore meant for projects to be begun by the Palike, commissioned in the past two years.
