Round the clock one-way on cards

Last Updated 18 September 2010, 17:24 IST

The city police are busy drawing out plans to ensure smooth flow of traffic and parking facilities,  without paving way for chaos and confusion, for the whole 10 days.
DCP (Crime and traffic) P Rajendra Prasad told Deccan Herald they are mulling over bringing some modifications. Unlike previous year, one-way rule may be effected from September 8 ( the inaugural of nine-day festivities) to September 17 (jamboo savari, the last leg of Dasara) round the clock. In the previous year, one-way rule was imposed on the roads around Ambavilas Palace, the centre of activities, only during evening hours. This year, the cops are planning to extend it for 24 hours. This apart, clockwise and anti-clockwise movements of vehicles are also planned.

From K R Circle, the vehicles can move in a clockwise direction connecting Government Ayurvedic Hospital Circle through Sayyaji Rao Road, Nehru Circle through Irwin road, Mahaveer Circle (in front of Doddagadiyaara) through Ashoka Road and Chamarajendra Wadiyar Circle (Statue Circle). From Hardinge Circle-Statue Circle-K R Circle-Statue Circle-Hardinge Circle the movement of vehicles will remain the same like normal days. To avoid traffic congestion on Ashoka road mainly due to the parking of four wheelers, majority of them belonging to shopkeepers, the police authorities have held talks with the former.
The traders have agreed to keep the road free from four-wheelers during that period, allowing the parking of only two-wheelers. Provisions for parking of vehicles will be made at Town Hall, Football Grounds and also Ambavilas (for VIPs alone) to enable those visiting Dasara related events.

D-day
To check pressure on the heart of the city on Jamboo Savari day, it is being worked out to operate outstation KSRTC buses from the outskirts.

The buses plying towards Nanjangud and Gundlupet will have to operate from Lorry Terminal off Nanjangud road. Separate buses will be plied connecting places in the city from the terminal for the convenience of the passengers. Bangalore bounded buses will operate from R S Naidu Nagar, while Hunsur buses will move from Ramaswamy Circle to and fro.

This temporary arrangement will be only for a few hours till ‘jamboo savari’ reaches culmination point. The KSRTC authorities have been taken into confidence, Rajendra Prasad added.

Personnel
To man traffic arrangements, a proposal has been forwarded to the office of DG and IG seeking 200 additional police personnel. About 100 home guards and 200 NCC cadets will also be deployed.
