'Maoists attack part of conspiracy'

Last Updated 19 September 2010, 16:38 IST

Speaking after inaugurating the West Bengal fraternity day organised by the CPI(M) District Committee at the NGO Hall here on Friday, Madhava said, “it is a part of a conspiracy, which hatched by the Trinamool Congress and other parties, to topple the CPI(M) government in West Bengal.” Those political parties, which could not win majority in West Bengal in the past seven Assembly elections, are now resorting to vandalism. The development works implemented by the CPI(M) government in West Bengal is model for the entire nation. The government had distributed about 16,700 acres of land to farmers in the State in the year 2007-09 alone, Madhava said. West Bengal is the only state which implements land reforms in a proper manner, he added. Talking about Nandigram protest, Madhava said that Trinamool Congress Chief and Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee was trying to politicise the issue to damage the reputation of the government. “West Bengal had permitted only 11 Special Economic Zones (SEZ) so far, wherein nine were IT based. Moreover, the government had acquired only 525 acres of land to set up 11 SEZs. Karnataka government have already acquired about 2,500 acres of land for Mangalore SEZ alone and are planning to acquire more land for the second phase of it. Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh government had acquired nearly 30,790 acres for the setting up of 74 SEZs. However, Mamata Banerjee and party workers creating confusion in the minds of the people through Nandigram issue,” Madhava said.  CPI(M) State Secretariat Member K R Sriyan among others  were present.
