Last Updated 19 September 2010, 16:59 IST

Judicial Magistrate Krishna Kumar yesterday issued the summons to the 51-year-old actor and Arshad Jamal, the local SP candidate for whom Dutt was campaigning during the Lok Sabha polls last year.

According to the prosecution, Dutt, then SP General Secretary, had alleged during the rally that he was booked under TADA and tortured under the third degree after the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts as he was the son of a Muslim mother (actress Nargis).

Dutt had been arrested on 19th April 1993 and served imprisonment for 18 months after he was found in possession of an AK-56 assault rifle.

Soon after the rally, Mau district police lodged an FIR against Dutt and Jamal and filed a chargesheet in the court.
