Set for the corporate world

Talent show

The students presented their talents not only through songs and dances but also through a fashion show which portrayed the glamour of the corporate world, its etiquette and culture. The idea behind ‘Surface’ was to search for the natural capabilities of students which can make a huge difference in the outside world.

“Through this programme, we want to develop the confidence of students to face the corporate world,” said Samir Pradhan, a professor at the Institute. The event started with a solo song section which had students enthralling the audience with their vocal skills. Beginning with the latest ‘Peelu’ from ‘Once upon a time in Mumbai’ to the retro ‘Om Shanti Om’, the students got a taste of everything.

Shuvam, a student, made the event even more special when he sang a self-composed song dedicated to his friends and classmates. The highlight of the evening was when the students were asked to choose their favourite professors. The students nominated two professors who were made to walk the ramp. This particular stunt drove the students wild and they screamed for more.

The solo singing event was followed by a dance competition which had the students shaking a leg. The solo performance to the beats of ‘Aaja Nachle’ by a student, Jaya, received a lot of catcalls and was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. But it was not all about film music. Sudarshana, another student, presented a folk dance performance.

Other programmes that created a lot of excitement during the day were group dances and songs. The most interesting event, however, was the skit which revealed the change in culture and spoke about the reforms needed today.

The students enacted a short story of Munshi Premchand, which showed some misled youth who have forgotten the basic values of respecting their parents and have become slaves of alcohol, smoking etc. This was followed by a much-awaited fashion show which had the students presenting various stages of a manager’s life through clothes.

The show began with students in casual clothes looking out for jobs. Then came the sleek formal wear round. Here, the new employees were seen meeting their clients. The other rounds had the students walking the ramp in ethnic wear and party gear, all ready to party after a hard day’s work.

‘Surface’ turned out to be an enjoyable event and had both the teachers as well as  students asking for more.
