Last Updated 25 September 2010, 16:32 IST

The study tour was scheduled from September 28 to October 5. In a press release here on Saturday, he said UNESCO has included Mysore as one of its important cities in the list of heritage cities. Besides, the heritage city has also been included under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM) scheme. The Delhi unit of UNESCO and French Historic Cities Association had jointly organised a study tour, courtesy French Government, from September 28 to October 5. It was aimed at studying development of those historic cities and following the same model here too.

The mayor said the State Government had given permission for him and superintending engineer of JnNURM for the study tour. They were supposed to visit historic cities in France.

This was the the invitation extended to the mayor of Mysore to participate in the study tour.

However, Dasara festival starts from October 8 and a lot of works are pending. For completion of all developmental works, he has decided to cancel his proposed study tour of France, he added.

It may be mentioned here that some organisations had objected to the mayor’s foreign jaunt at a time when Dasara related works were yet to be completed in almost all parts of the city. They had demanded the first citizen to cancel his tour and concentrate towards completion of all pending works at the earliest.
