Case against two for attacking Salem aide at Arthur Rd Jail

According to prison officials, the two inmates - Pratap Pandey and Abhay Sehalar - are members of the Pandav Putra gang.Mohammed Mehndi Hassan, an undertrial in the 1995 murder of builder Pradeep Jain, suffered injuries on his face and hand after he was allegedly attacked with a sharp-edged weapon by four inmates. He has been admitted to the jail hospital.

The four accused are facing extortion and robbery charges, they said.The assault on Hassan comes two months after Salem, extradited from Portugal five years ago to face trial, was injured in an attack by Mustafa Dossa, a close aide of fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, in the jail.Hassan is said to be a former driver of Salem, an accused in the 1993 serial bomb blasts in Mumbai.After the July 24 assault, Salem was shifted to Taloja Jail in Navi Mumbai, while Dossa was moved to Thane Central Prison.
